Our school was filled with love and laughter this week as all classes came together in the hall to create beautiful Valentine’s cards. The creativity and teamwork on display made it a truly special activity, with pupils enjoying the chance to share kindness and friendship with one another. Adding to the festive atmosphere, the tuck shop embraced a Valentine’s theme for the week, which proved to be a big hit with everyone. We were also delighted to welcome students from Davitt College, who treated our pupils to wonderful live music. Their performance brought great energy and joy to the celebration, and it was clear that everyone had an amazing time. A huge thank you to Anne Marie and Meghan for organising such lovely activities.

Our school community enjoyed a wonderful day celebrating St Brigid, our patron saint. The children took part in making traditional St Brigid’s crosses, learning about their meaning and the story behind this special Irish tradition. There was great enthusiasm and creativity on display as the children worked together, and the pride they took in their crosses was clear to see. It was a joyful day filled with music, treats, and a real sense of celebration. St Brigid’s Day is always a special occasion at St. Brid’s Special School, and this year was no exception. The children had a fantastic day marking the feast of our patron saint and keeping a much-loved tradition alive.

Well done to Oak Class who won the Castle Books Christmas Art Competition in Castlebar. The theme of the competition was "Christmas at the Book Shop." The staff at Castle Books gave our pupils a really warm welcome when they went to collect their lovely prizes. Thank you from us all at St. Brid's.

Our school community is deeply saddened by the passing of former Principal Paul Murphy. Mr. Murphy was a dedicated leader whose vision, compassion, and commitment left a lasting impact on our students, staff, and families. His contributions helped shape the strong, caring community we are proud to be part of today. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones during this difficult time. His legacy will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.

We would like to extend our deepest thanks to AbbVie and Volunteer Ireland for the incredible work they have done in giving our school a complete makeover during their 'Week of Possibilities" project. The transformation is truly beyond anything we could have imagined — the school looks absolutely amazing. Thank you for thinking of our children, their families, and our dedicated staff. Your generosity and hard work have brought a fresh energy to our school that will give everyone a real boost when we return for Summer Camp and after the summer holidays. The volunteers from AbbVie and Terri O'Brien and her crew from Volunteer Ireland went above and beyond in every way — working tirelessly, with enthusiasm and kindness, and always putting the needs of our school and our children first. We are so grateful for everything they have done. From all of us here at St. Brid’s, thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

It was with great sadness that we said goodbye to Mary this week as she begins her well-earned retirement. Mary has been an integral part of life at St Brid’s for many years, dedicating herself wholeheartedly to the education and well-being of our pupils. Her tireless efforts to support our children in reaching their full potential have made a lasting impact. Mary has been a true source of wisdom and support to her colleagues, always willing to go above and beyond in everything she did. We will all miss her dearly — both professionally and personally. Mary, thank you for everything. We wish you every happiness and good health in your retirement!'
