Welcome to St. Brids Special School

The principal, staff, and Board of Management extend a warm welcome to parents, carers and professionals who may be interested in the work of the school.

What we do

St Brid’s is a Special National School located in the centre of Castlebar town. St.Brid’s School caters for pupils from 4-18 years of age who have a Moderate, Severe or Profound Learning Disability. We also cater for pupils who have physical and sensory disabilities, along with pupils with Autistic Spectrum Disorder(ASD).

St Brid’s follows the NCCA Curriculum Guidelines, delivering a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum to the pupils. St Brid’s works with all the health and social partners to provide a well supported environment for the pupils. This includes physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, psychology, behaviour support and family support services.

St Brid’s provides a transition programme for those pupils in their final school year, allowing pupils and their families to sample a range of opportunities for future adult life. St Brid’s has very strong links with the local community. The pupils have the opportunity to participate fully in their local community during their life at school.

All the expertise that are required for our daughters needs are available there, and are utilised every day.
Our daughter is so happy attending St Brid’s. The principal and staff at St Brid’s are so good and committed at what they do, it makes our experience so pleasurable.
100% best decision we ever made.”

“My son is attending St Brids school for 4 years now & I only have great things to say about.

The teachers & SNAs are amazing, they teach not only academics, but communication & life skills, they bring out the best in every child by tapping into their individual strengths while creating an environment of kindness & inclusion.  They are great at sharing moments of pride, their good behaviours & achievements but in a very respectful & approachable manner.

My son loves all the staff of St Brids.

Great team
Great school”
